On December 24th, 2014, Mr. Ahmad re-opened the Frontier Town gas station located at Exit 29 off I-87. Mr. Ahmad knows the gas station and convenience store business well. He has been running the Sunoco location at Exit 28 in Schroon Lake for the last 9 years.

Mr. Ahmad decided to acquire the former Frontier Town gas station in North Hudson to expand his area of service. This is great news for the residents of North Hudson and I-87 commuters in this region as they did not have suitable access to gas and convenience store services prior to this. Gas can now be accessed 24 hrs a day with a credit card used at the pumps along this isolated stretch of I-87.

Like many towns in the Adirondack Park, North Hudson wants to attract new businesses and tourists, but this is extremely difficult to accomplish without the basic infrastructure in place to support development. The town of North Hudson is now in a better position to successfully move plans for growth forward because of Mr. Ahmad’s decision to re-open the gas station.

To date, Exit 29 sales are five times higher than initially projected – with 22,505 gallons of gasoline sold in the first 38 days. The strategy for the gas station is to offer very competitive gas prices with a full convenience store offering including: coffee, snacks, sandwiches, drinks, ATM machine, etc. and beer very soon.

Mr. Ahmad worked with certified business advisor Angela Smith from the North Country SBDC to secure funding to renovate and buy inventory for the new gas station. Together they wrote a comprehensive business plan and prepared financials which were used to successfully secure loans and grants for the project.

Mr. Ahmad is looking forward to the busy summer months. Exit 29 Sunoco is located just east of the Northway exit ramps, across from the former Frontier Town property. For more information, contact them at 532-0500.

"It was a wonderful experience working with SBDC. I am very impressed with the knowledge, experience and great help from my business advisor Miss Angela Smith. She was easy to reach and she helped me greatly in writing up my business plan. Without her help, I might not have secured the funds, and hence open the doors for business. Thank you SBDC. Thank you Miss Angela."
