MORIAH VENTURES, LLC – In 2016, WhistlePig, LLC was looking for a second operation site to age some 50,000 barrels of whiskey. The site had to be located outside of Addison County VT as the current law limits commercial activity on the farm. WhistlePig turned to New York State in hopes that the regulatory environment would be more favorable.

They were referred to the North Country SBDC by the Essex County IDA and Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce. Advisor Angela Smith worked with the client to identify state regulations and required permits. She helped cut through red tape and identified incentives for the project resulting in a $350,000 tax credit offer through Empire State Development’s Excelsior Jobs Program.

After considering several other sites in VT and Canada, WhistlePig selected the Moriah Business Park in Mineville NY. The project brings significant investments and new jobs to a rural, underserved community. To date, WhistlePig has invested $2.5M in equipment and new infrastructure and has created 4 jobs through its new holding company Moriah Ventures, LLC.
